How do I get rid of hundreds of ants inside the house... they are driving us insane!!!?

have you done any digging near the house, used a hose , they move from their dry conditions when water is near, put all jams ,p/nut er, sugars ,any thing sweet into the fridge, go outside and follow the trail , then pour water that has ammonia in all round the exit/ entry hole, they learn to smell their food supply where ever it may be
